Learn Dutch before you move

The months before a move are the best time to start Dutch. You have more time now than you will have in the first year after arrival, when housing, work, school and paperwork take everything.

Starting early also changes what that first year looks like. You read your own letters from the municipality, follow what is said at your child's school, and understand the conversation at work instead of waiting for someone to switch to English. Many people in the Netherlands will switch to English for you. That is kind, and it is also how newcomers stay outsiders for years.

What we work on

  • A solid base in pronunciation, so people understand you from the start.
  • The Dutch you will need first: the municipality, the doctor, the school, the landlord, the workplace.
  • How Dutch institutions and communication norms work, so that what people say makes sense.

Whether you are moving for a job, with a partner, or to start a business under the Dutch American Friendship Treaty, the lessons are online, so we can start wherever you live now.
